Radar works by emitting radio waves from an antenna with sharp directional capability, then detecting    the waves reflected from the target and calculating and displaying both the distance and direction to the    targe. In poor visibility, such as at night or in dense fog, radar detects surrrounding ships and other    obstacles, thus playing a crucial role in preventing disasters at sea and protecing life and property.
